Ben Nicholson (1894-1982) was one of the greatest British artists of the twentieth century, first coming to international prominence with his famous ‘white reliefs’ of the 1930s. A pioneer of abstract art in Britain, he played a significant role in the European avant-garde, forming close links with Picasso, Braque, Arp, Mondrian and others. At the same time he had a strong sense of tradition, maintaining a life- long attachment to landscape and still-life forms. Central to the establishment of a modernist art community in St Ives, Nicholson’s importance as a disseminator of international avant-garde ideas in Britain cannot be overstated. His career spanned more than 60 years and embraced carved reliefs, paintings, drawings and prints.

Resolutely abstract, his paintings, collages and sculptures are known for their exuberance and strong colour.

Banksy's ‘Saw Rat’ stencil art first appeared on London's Southbank in 2003 on an embankment wall. Not far from Banksy's home town of Bristol and billed as the ‘UKs Most Disappointing Visitor Attraction’. Running for five weeks between 21st August to September 17th 2015 was Banksy’s Dismaland at Western-Super-Mare. Auctioning a Banksy collectors Dismaland merchandise and memorabilia collected from Banksy’s Bemusement Park. Purchased items and cardboard ‘Free art’ which was found spread around Dismaland INCLUDED – A ‘Dismalhand’ – A Disney ‘Mickey Mouse’ hand by DMS - purchased from the gift shop and unopened, some were scatter bombed around the park. This was a limited Edition - Mickey Mouse hand,’ Titled Dead Dismal by dismal Hand, there where other things such as ‘fishfinger in a bag’ and ‘I’m an Imbercile’ balloon by David Shrigley The reverse framed ‘Banksy’ 29 x 23 cm cardboard art – To the front ’Saw Rat’, spray art, signed ‘Banksy is Dismal’ to the reverse with the Dismaland Bemusement Park stamp. As well as Banksy and his installation’s of the Mediterranean Boat ride, Cinderella, the Grim Reeper, the Fountain, the Mermaid, the Giant Pinwheel and Jumping Killer Whale, some detailed on the Tour Guide. There where likeminded national and international artists including other street artists such as LUSH, pop art, surrealist, abstract and conceptual artists. Title: Thomas The Tank Engine Original Artwork For Cover Signed Timothy Marwood Description: Thomas the Tank Engine (and Friends) In the early days (before computers took over) the artist Timothy Marwood drew every single image for the comics, a VERY few were painted by him and some were in black & white. After he had done the painting the production team would add wording, then they were scanned & printed - This is the original painting for a 1992 cover (The wording went into the steam cloud) Timothy Marwood (died 2008) I had the honour of purchasing the entire collection by Timothy when he moved house, he signed each of the 3000+ pieces of artwork and told me of the 3000 there were probably about 100 in colour and the comics were coloured by computer which was cheaper for the publishers. Since 1984 Timothy Marwood has been the sole illustrator for both of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends comics produced by Marvel & Redan publishers. (At the end of 1999 Redan purchased the contract from Marvel). The fame and popularity of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends dipped in the 1970's but then in 1984 the BBC launched him on Television and he has never looked back. A large part of this is due to the exceptionally fine and accurate work of Timothy. His other work includes Rosie and Jim, Enid Blyton The Famous Five, Enid Blyton's The Secret Seven and also Thunderbirds. When not painting or drawing for the comics his pleasure comes from painting marine scenes. Your Picture was used at the Very Beginning of the entire success story of Thomas & friends.
