Ben Nicholson (1894-1982) was one of the greatest British artists of the twentieth century, first coming to international prominence with his famous ‘white reliefs’ of the 1930s. A pioneer of abstract art in Britain, he played a significant role in the European avant-garde, forming close links with Picasso, Braque, Arp, Mondrian and others. At the same time he had a strong sense of tradition, maintaining a life- long attachment to landscape and still-life forms. Central to the establishment of a modernist art community in St Ives, Nicholson’s importance as a disseminator of international avant-garde ideas in Britain cannot be overstated. His career spanned more than 60 years and embraced carved reliefs, paintings, drawings and prints.

Resolutely abstract, his paintings, collages and sculptures are known for their exuberance and strong colour.

Banksy's ‘Saw Rat’ stencil art first appeared on London's Southbank in 2003 on an embankment wall. Not far from Banksy's home town of Bristol and billed as the ‘UKs Most Disappointing Visitor Attraction’. Running for five weeks between 21st August to September 17th 2015 was Banksy’s Dismaland at Western-Super-Mare. Auctioning a Banksy collectors Dismaland merchandise and memorabilia collected from Banksy’s Bemusement Park. Purchased items and cardboard ‘Free art’ which was found spread around Dismaland INCLUDED – A ‘Dismalhand’ – A Disney ‘Mickey Mouse’ hand by DMS - purchased from the gift shop and unopened, some were scatter bombed around the park. This was a limited Edition - Mickey Mouse hand,’ Titled Dead Dismal by dismal Hand, there where other things such as ‘fishfinger in a bag’ and ‘I’m an Imbercile’ balloon by David Shrigley The reverse framed ‘Banksy’ 29 x 23 cm cardboard art – To the front ’Saw Rat’, spray art, signed ‘Banksy is Dismal’ to the reverse with the Dismaland Bemusement Park stamp. As well as Banksy and his installation’s of the Mediterranean Boat ride, Cinderella, the Grim Reeper, the Fountain, the Mermaid, the Giant Pinwheel and Jumping Killer Whale, some detailed on the Tour Guide. In addition to Haring's memorabilia, he also sold a few items by other artists. Haring's friend and mentor Andy Warhol was "a big supporter" of the Pop Shop. The Street Graffiti art was sprayed when Banksy visited New Orleans, three years after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. There, Banksy used the still-tattered urban fabric of New Orleans as an eloquent backdrop for his critique of the situation. Banksy painted Abraham Lincoln as a homeless man, pushing a trolley full of goods, using the same stencil he would employ for these works on cardboard. The building upon which Banksy had painted his image of Lincoln has since been demolished to make way for a healthcare facility. About the Artists and the ART Gilbert Prousch, (born 17 September 1943 in San Martin de Tor, Italy), and George Passmore (born 8 January 1942 in Plymouth), are two artists who work together as the collaborative art duo Gilbert & George. They are known for their distinctive and highly formal appearance and manner in performance art, and also for their brightly coloured graphic-style photo-based artworks. Designed and made in 1994 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Thierry Noir and his 1984 art invasion of berlin which included artistic decoration of the Berlin Wall and Trabant cars In 1984,Thierry Noir became the first artist to illegally paint miles of the Berlin Wall. With his now infamous Heads Series. This revolutionary act inspired other artists, and over the next five years the Wall was covered with layers of artwork and images, creating a ‘palimpsest of protest’. As Noir says, painting the Wall made him feel stronger than it. For years, the Wall had stood as an oppressive symbol of a divided world, materialising in a history of separation and struggle. Noir’s work subverted this iconic symbol of war into a symbol of hope, granting it a real human significance.
