Recognised as the only female of the British Pop Art movement. Short lived and with a limited portfolio, Pauline Boty portraits the author and artist Derek Marlowe in black and white, with an abstract header of ‘Unknown Ladies’. Botys rebellious art and free spirit lifestyle made her a Herald for Feminism. Painted in bright colours, with crude brushstrokes and exaggerated facial expressions, the faces of four ‘unknown ladies’ are used as a decorative border. Here she contrasts her male sitter with the faces of four ‘unknown ladies’, epitomising a frustration with sexual inequality and sexism. The origin of ‘unknown ladies’ remains a secret but it muted that these where sexual conquests of Marlow. Title: Thomas The Tank Engine Original Artwork For Cover Signed Timothy Marwood Description: Thomas the Tank Engine (and Friends) In the early days (before computers took over) the artist Timothy Marwood drew every single image for the comics, a VERY few were painted by him and some were in black & white. After he had done the painting the production team would add wording, then they were scanned & printed - This is the original painting for a 1992 cover (The wording went into the steam cloud) Timothy Marwood (died 2008) I had the honour of purchasing the entire collection by Timothy when he moved house, he signed each of the 3000+ pieces of artwork and told me of the 3000 there were probably about 100 in colour and the comics were coloured by computer which was cheaper for the publishers. Since 1984 Timothy Marwood has been the sole illustrator for both of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends comics produced by Marvel & Redan publishers. (At the end of 1999 Redan purchased the contract from Marvel). The fame and popularity of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends dipped in the 1970's but then in 1984 the BBC launched him on Television and he has never looked back. A large part of this is due to the exceptionally fine and accurate work of Timothy. His other work includes Rosie and Jim, Enid Blyton The Famous Five, Enid Blyton's The Secret Seven and also Thunderbirds. When not painting or drawing for the comics his pleasure comes from painting marine scenes. Your Picture was used at the Very Beginning of the entire success story of Thomas & friends. ABOUT THE ARTIST and the ART One of the most influential figures of twentieth- century art, Robert Rauschenberg was a pioneering artist who ultimately challenged perceptions of what art could be. Born in Texas in 1925 he later moved to New York, where he created many of his best-known works. Endlessly curious and inventive, his work ranged from painting and sculpture to performance and dance. His refusal to accept existing boundaries of what was considered art led him to continually experiment with new techniques, from innovative printing methods to incorporating found objects and detritus in his works.
