About the Art and the Artist: ‘JACKIE KENNEDY’ with her iconic Pure Evil dripping tear is for the loss of John F Kennedy, her husband and President of America. Charles Uzzell-Edwards iconic USP and artistic interpretation of her loss, is a four coloured hand pulled Silk Screen Print with aqua, red, purple, black and sheen black dripping tear accents. The style of Pure Evil is certainly distinctive, leading to the growth of his brand worldwide. Using primarily graffiti and stencil, the work of Pure Evil is often bright and colourful, while including satirical and political overtones that mock popular culture. Jackie Kennedy (1929-94), born Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, later Jackie Onassis, worked as a photographer before marrying ambitious Democratic politician JFK in 1953. She became the nation’s most celebrated First Lady when Kennedy was elected US president in 1961. On November 21 1963 she was with Kennedy in an open car crossing Dealey Plaza in Dallas when the shots were fired that changed America’s sense of itself, breeding paranoia and countless conspiracy theories. Pure Evil is the moniker for Welsh born Street artist, Charles Uzzell-Edwards, who studied fashion and graphics in London. Moving to the West Coast of the US in the early 90’s, he found inspiration in the graffiti and skate culture and became heavily involved in the electronic music scene. In the early 1940s he began using archaic symbols and Jungian shapes to represent the primal emotions embedded in myths. His death by suicide in 1970 lead many to believe that his work reflected his depressed state, but Rothko insisted that his work did not represent his personal emotions but rather his theories on the condition of humankind. About the Art and Artist ‘Dead Rebels’ is an awe inspiring captivating believable and moving satire of The Sex Pistols, SID VICIOUS, ELVIS PRESLEY and JIMI HENDRIX trilogy of screenprints from POW in 2006. Insect at his best, where he captures the reality of Rock N Roll stardom. From his early street Graf period these screenprints from his anarchic phase of 2006 is from his ‘Dead Rebels’ triptych. The triptych includes Dead Sid, Dead Elvis and Dead Hendrix on 300 gsm white wove art paper. In the autumn of 2019, Banksy introduced a unique artistic endeavour by opening a storefront in Croydon called Gross Domestic Product. On the website, they could register their interest and participate in a lottery for a chance to win only one item. The bottle has the well-known blue and white Tesco value label. The neck of the bottle is stuffed with a burning cloth. The label reads "Petrol Bomb." By choosing Tesco supermarkets’ own-brand of beer bottle and its basic no-bones packaging. Banksy’s painting speaks to a bread-line culture of austerity and welfare. Banksy designed and released Tesco Petrol Bomb at Bristol's Anarchist Bookfair where this was purchased in a show of support for those who were arrested during the 2011 Bristol riots. People were protesting the new Tesco Express that opened in the Stokes Croft area. The protests became violent and people were arrested as reported on the national news. Banksy produced several prints for sale and donated the profits to those who need to pay for legal assistance. People were able to buy the posters exclusively at Bristol's Anarchist Bookfair days after the riots broke out. Tesco Petrol Bomb is also a symbol of the supermarket expansion. Supermarkets are detrimental to free markets as local shops are getting wiped out. About the Art and Artists: Signed By: Sir Peter Blake RA & Chris Gabrin In Pencil Chris Gabrin talks about All New Boots and Panties I first met Ian Dury in 1973 when his band Kilburn and the Highroads were playing the pub circuit and immediately was impressed by Ian Dury’s talent, wit and style. We became friends and when Ian Dury signed to Stiff Records in 1977 he called and asked me to take some pictures for his album sleeve (untitled at the time). There was no particular theme in mind and we started with some uninspiring shots outside his flat in The Oval in South London. Ian Dury had his son, Baxter, with him and suggested we went to a shop he knew, Axfords in Victoria, which Sir Peter Blake had introduced him to. I only shot 24 exposures and Baxter was in just four of them. As soon as the films were developed Ian Dury came round and we immediately chose the same shot. We were so excited by the picture that we went straight into my darkroom and made the first print. The album title New Boots And Panties was subsequently coined by Ian Dury. After Ians death in 2000, a tribute album was released, a re-recording of New Boots by guest artists under the title of Brand New Boots And Panties. Sir Peter Blake did a painting of Ian Dury for the front cover and requested that we use my photo on the back of the sleeve. Rob Smeaton of Rockoptic, an old friend from my art college days, was working with Sir Peter Blake on publishing limited edition prints of his work and came up with the brainwave of a joint artwork combining the two images. Working with Sir Peter Blake was one of the highlights of my life. This unforgettable experience, however, was tempered with sadness over the loss of Ian Dury. The subsequent artwork, All New Boots And Panties, which we created with the aid of Brad Faine, Peters long-time printmaker is a both a tribute and a fond farewell to Ian Dury from both of us. The rarity of all of this work just amplifies this collectability, I am obviously letting this go reluctantly. James Cauty has now been publishing works through the L-13 in it's three previous guises ('The Aquarium', 'The Aquarium L-13' and the 'L-13 Light Industrial Workshop') for 19 years since the first Black smoke Stamps of Mass Destruction 'Gas Mask Queen' pieces. His output over that time has been prolific, classy, quirky, dark, humorous, controversial, thought-provoking and delightfully edgy and hard-hitting, making him really like-able and collectable. It shares a dadaist influence of the absurd but has the charming qualities of Horst Janner and his earlier seminal work. For Horst, this is a different and unusual composition in the DaDa influence. Horst Janssen (14 November 1929 – 31 August 1995) was a German draftsman, printmaker, poster artist and illustrator. He had a prolific output of drawings, etchings, woodcuts, lithographs and wood engravings. Janssen was a student of Alfred Mahlau at the Landeskunstschule Hamburg. He first published in the newsweekly Die Zeit in 1947. In the early 1950s, he started working in lithography, on an initiative of Aschaffenburg paper manufacturer Guido Dessauer, using the technical facilities of a coloured paper factory. The first retrospective of Janssen's drawings and graphic works was shown in 1965, first in the kestnergesellschaft Hanover, then in other German cities and in Basel.
