Title: Piet Mondrian Rare Limited Edition From The Composition Series. One of Only 85 Published. Description: 9885 - Limited edition by Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) titled "Composition in red, yellow, blue and black, 1921" This actual print was printed in London and is one from the published edition which was strictly limited to 85 copies Worldwide (numbered in the publishers frank). It will be supplied with a replacement valuation for £1800 (free of charge). Bespoke hand made mount and framed. It will be accompanied with a certificate of authenticity which verifies the number of the edition, which has also been signed by the Master Printer. It has been printed to the highest standard with lightfast inks onto acid-free calcium carbonate-buffered stock, mould-made from 100% cotton. Image size approx 61cm x 61cm. Mondrian was born in Holland in 1872 and was determined to become a painter from a young age. He qualified with a teaching degree in 1892, but enrolled for painting lessons, before moving to Amsterdam and registering at the Rijksacademie. Mondrian became a member of the art society Kunstliefde "Art Lovers" in Utrecht, where his first paintings were exhibited in 1893. He experimented with many different styles including naturalistic, impressionist and painting many landscapes of his native country. In 1911 he moved to Paris and the influence of Cubism, as evidenced by Picasso and Braque, started to appear almost immediately in his work. He spent the duration of the First World War back in Holland and continued his journey towards abstraction. After the War had finished Mondrian returned to France. He then moved to London in 1938 but relocated to New York just two years later in 1940, where he remained until his death. Mondrian is well known for his contribution to the development of modern abstract art. He strove to portray an extreme 'formal purity' through his combination of simplistic straight lines and bold primary colours. The Image: Mondrian spent the period 1914-1918 (World War I) back at his home in Holland and during this time, he decided to work on an abstract art form which was later classified as 'Neoplastic style'. This work was depicted by lighter colours, simplified colour selection and forms that were balanced in their composition. This work is a result of Mondrian joining the abstraction-creation line which was open to new styles, new techniques and at this time Mondrian began to be fascinated with the idea of the line and dismantling the very definition of painting. He argued that drawing and draughtsmanship which were exemplified in the line, had always lain at the heart of painting from the Renaissance artists to the Impressionists to the Modernists and no one had ever thought to challenge that. Title: Pablo Picasso Limited Edition Titled "Femme D'Alger" Description: 4177 - This rare limited edition on silk by Pablo Picasso titled "Les Femmes D'Alger (Version O)" is one of only 85 published Worldwide. The painting by Eugene Delacroix entitled "The Women of Algiers in their Apartment" inspired a whole series of paintings by Picasso, who often undertook this type of tribute to an artist that he admired. Interestingly, his first version was painted six weeks after learning of the death of his lifelong friend, Henri Matisse, and the oriental subject of this series of paintings held strong associations with Matisse, who had been famous for his images of languid, voluptuous women, known as odalisques. The original of this, which is known as Version 0, was sold in 2015 at public auction for almost U.S. $180 million. Picasso explores colour throughout this series of paintings, but he also produced one monochrome version. He also appreciated the patterning of the tiled interior which can be seen as a continuation of his concern with handicraft and folk embroideries from Eastern Europe. Picasso‚Äôs sympathies remained with those who were deprived of their freedom or subjected to repression and torture and odalisques is the French word taken from the Turkish language for a woman living in a harem. The strong controls of the harem meant that the occupants had very little freedom. This period in the mid 1950s when Picasso had moved to Cannes in the South of France marked a return to his peak form; as he found great happiness at La Californie. The detail and quality of this rare print is outstanding. Following the atomic explosion over Hiroshima in 1945, Dali painted a number of fragmented heads and figures. Some of the shapes that form the head in this painting are solid and phallic shaped - inspired by rhinoceros horns. The upper area of the painting, with the halo and brown clouds resembles photographs of atomic explosions. The female face, with its tender expression and thin halo, is recognisable as the face of a Madonna by Raphael. Dali was a great admirer of renaissance Old Masters, Da Vinci and Raphael to be specific. The skull section in this work is based upon the inside of the dome of the Pantheon building in Rome. Dali has fragmented the head to show how the sense of order from the past, illustrated by the balance and reason of a classical icon, has been shattered by the advent of nuclear weapons. The motif of the shattered head was a common one amongst artists in the post-war years. This reflects the emotional turmoil of a period when nuclear war seemed like a reality, following the use of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In this context, the delicate halo of the Madonna now suggests a nuclear mushroom cloud and her expression, with eyes downcast in prayer, seems particularly appropriate. This is one of only 75 published Worldwide, numbered in the frank. (Free of charge) Excellent condition. Framed and mounted. Image size approx 51cm x 100cm. "Nighthawks" was painted in 1942 by Edward Hopper. The subject portrays people sitting in a downtown diner late at night. It is, undoubtedly, Hopper's most famous work and is one of the most recognisable paintings in American art. Within months of its completion, it was sold to the Art Institute of Chicago for the sum of $3000, where it still hangs. According to Hopper's wife, Josephine, the painting was finished on the 21st January and her handwritten notes include the interesting possibility that the painting's evocative title may have had its origins as a reference to the beak-shaped nose of the man at the bar. She also said that Edward had posed for the two figures himself of the men, using a mirror, and he used his wife, Josephine, for the girl. The painting took around six weeks to complete. There is a possibility that Hopper was inspired by Vincent van Gogh's "Night Caf√e" which was being exhibited in New York at the time he painted this painting. No-one has clearly and safely identified the site of the painting but it is thought to have been at Mulry Square which is the intersection of Seventh Avenue South, Greenwich Avenue and West 11th Street, which was some seven blocks from Hopper's studio on Washington Square. This very fine original painting has been professionally mounted, ready to be framed and is in excellent condition. John Chisnall was born in Carshalton, Surrey in 1943 where he spent the first twenty years of his life. He had a very successful career in the public sector, managing the design and construction of a wide range of buildings and civil engineering structures for the government estate. The professional experience gained in this field has given him extensive knowledge of many of the subjects he now explores in his paintings. He developed his interest in painting and drawing in parallel with his primary career until, gradually, these activities gained more importance and in 1992 he left public service in order to spend more time painting. John Chisnall has painted in various media throughout his life and now works mainly in watercolour, finding this medium well suited to catching both the atmosphere and the detail of a place. Largely self taught, although he did spend three years at Sutton School of Art studying life drawing, his paintings are direct celebrations of visual pleasures and ignore the darker sides of modern life. Exhibiting extensively in galleries throughout the UK, he has had six one-man shows in the last 15 years and has illustrated several books on local villages and parishes in Surrey. Title: Gustav Klimt 22ct Gold Leaf Silkscreen "Woman In Gold" Description: 2319 - This is a skilled piece of art work by Gustav Klimt. This worldwide famous art piece is titled "Woman in Gold" and was limited to only 100 Worldwide. This Silkscreen has been painstakingly hand embellished by hand in 22ct gold (see photos for the detail). Gustav Klimt's famous painting "Woman in Gold" also known as 'Adele Bloch-Bauer I' has become one of the most famous paintings of all time. Examples from this edition have fetched over £6k in previous auctions. Please check the size as this is a large piece of art. Portrait of 'Adele Bloch-Bauer I' is a 1907 painting by Gustav Klimt. According to press reports it was sold for US$135 million to Ronald Lauder for his Neue Galerie in New York City in June 2006, which made it at that time the most expensive painting. Klimt took three years to complete the painting. It measures 54" x 54" [138 x 138 cm] and is made of oil and gold on canvas, showing elaborate and complex ornamentation as seen in the Jugendstil style. Klimt was a member of the Vienna Secession, a group of artists that broke away from the traditional way of painting. The picture was painted in Vienna and commissioned by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer who was a banker and who married Adele when she was 18 and he was 35. Sadly, their three children all died at birth and Adele died in 1925. As a wealthy industrialist who had made his fortune in the sugar industry, he sponsored the arts and favoured and supported Gustav Klimt. Adele Bloch-Bauer became the only model who was painted twice by Klimt when he completed a second picture of her, Adele Bloch-Bauer II, in 1912. The picture was only returned to its rightful owner, Adele's niece, Maria Altmann, in 2006. Maria, who fled occupied Austria to the USA with her husband (saved by ransom from Dachau) remembered her aunt well, 'I never saw her smile, she was always very serious and wore flowing white dresses and carried a gold cigarette holder when it was very unusual for women to smoke, she had a salon rather than ladies tea parties.'. Giuseppe is a landscape artist who captures the beautiful land and seascapes of southern Italy and the Adriatic coastline with an imaginative mind and vibrant palette. His use of colour and the manner in which he applies in careful brush strokes or free flowing palette knife captures the idyllic rural setting of the fields, orchards, coastline and waterways of this tranquil part of Italy. Golden yellows, rust reds and burnt orange are mixed and applied to his canvases in such a way that they exude warmth and his light use of colour for the sky and the sea creates a hazy, subdued atmospheric feeling which is entirely appropriate for a calm sea on a warm day. Giuseppe studied at various art schools and colleges in Italy and in 1974 he was offered his first solo show in a gallery in Brindisi. Since then Giuseppe has not looked back and he exhibits regularly in galleries in the fashionable cities of Rome and Milan as well as keeping to his rural roots and showing in small resort towns around the country. Giuseppe has had his work shown at all the major art fairs in Italy as well as fairs in Frankfurt, Cannes, Dublin, London and Edinburgh. In the maturity of the creative path, Giuseppe D'Elia has reached the informal, one would say an "impure" abstraction since in his latest works a figural abstract persists: elements, not always and easily legible, of a deconstructed, decontextualized, reduced landscape almost to the mnemonic datum alone. Not only that the immediacy of the gesture and the sign - key factors, with the material, of the informal so to speak more classic - is obtained from a pre-established design from a pre-existing vision and reconstruction of reality, the brushstroke and the stroke of the spatula they are peremptory, sometimes "striking" in their rapidity, in the material stratifications, naturally due to the peculiarity of the more spontaneous and instinctive creative act that Delia now uses.
