Condition: The bindings show heavy wear, with flaking and peeling to the spines, rubbing to corners, and some loss (particularly Vols. VII–VIII). Boards faded and marked. Mounted on later ebonised and gilt octagonal wooden plinths, these lamps are of impressive scale and strong decorative presence. The solid brass frame features a domed crown adorned with cast acanthus leaf drops and a pierced finial gallery. The body retains its large, original frosted glass shade, housing internal lighting. This lantern was removed from the Savoy Hotel in London some years ago and is one of a set of four we acquired. A pair from the set featured in the 2024 Amazon Prime series A Gentleman in Moscow. The circular frame is pierced with alternating quatrefoil and round motifs, supported by arched brass ribs rising to a domed top with decorative scrollwork. Three curved arms project from the ring, each designed to take a glass shade above the gas jets (now adapted for electricity). The gasolier retains an attractive aged patina and comes with three impressive hand-blown opalescent glass shades of softly crimped bell form, each with a delicate iridescent sheen. Dimensions: Width: 75 cm Height (drop, excluding chain): 75 cm Each shade: width 21 cm × height 18 cm × aperture 9 cm Condition: Brass frame with age-related tarnish and some distortion to one arm. The central baluster stem is constructed from cut and faceted glass knops, surmounted by a glass corona and finished with a polished brass collar at the base. The chandelier is fully dressed with fine quality cut glass throughout: faceted rosettes, button chains, pear-shaped pendants and rule-cut icicle prisms. The arrangement is symmetrical and well-composed, creating a refined sparkle when lit. Fully wired and ready for installation.
