The sides and back are similarly decorated with further painted panels in the manner of Sèvres. The silvered dial, embossed with foliate motifs, has two winding holes and is set within a cast brass bezel. The clock houses a traditional French movement with silk suspension, striking on a bell. The rear hinged cover opens to reveal the mechanism. The movement runs and strikes when handled, though it has not been serviced or guaranteed. Fitted with an 8-day movement, the clock strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong. The movement bears the stamped mark of Badische and the serial number 53572. Access is provided via glazed front and rear doors. The original pendulum and gong are present. The pierced gilt brass frame is mounted with foliate and floral ornament to the top gallery and features a suite of stained, cut and textured glass panels in ruby, amber, and frosted tones. Fitted with its original Cosmos burner and glass chimney, and complete with a removable brass font, which rests in a fitted cradle inside the lantern. The lantern is suspended from an integrated brass loop and features a domed upper section with decorative cresting. Dimensions: Height: 56 cm Width: 20 cm Depth: 20 cm Condition: Glass panels all intact and in good order. Some expected surface wear and age-related tarnish to the brass. The surface retains its original gold leaf finish with areas of wear and rubbing, giving a pleasing aged character. Fitted with a later handmade lined silk shade of good quality, trimmed with fringe and tassels, which complements the classical form well and enhances its overall presence. Removed from a country house in Worcestershire. Structurally sound and of good weight, with expected wear to the gilding and minor age-related marks to the shade. As with all vintage lighting, electrical testing is recommended prior to use.
