Banksys ‘Snorting Copper’ stencil art first appeared on London's East End in 2005 on a toilet block wall. Not far from Banksy's home town of Bristol and billed as the ‘UKs Most Disappointing Visitor Attraction’. Running for five weeks between 21st August to September 17th 2015 was Banksy’s Dismaland at Western-Super-Mare. Auctioning a Banksy collectors Dismaland merchandise and memorabilia collected from Banksy’s Bemusement Park. Purchased items and cardboard ‘Free art’ which was found spread around Dismaland. INCLUDED – ‘Snorting Copper’ on card ‘free art’ from Dismaland. Banksy's ‘Snorting Copper’ stencil art first appeared on London's East End in Shoreditch, 2005 on toilet block wall. A ‘Dismalhand’ – A Disney ‘Mickey Mouse’ hand by DMS - purchased from the gift shop and unopened, some were scatter bombed around the park. This was a limited Edition - Mickey Mouse hand,’ Titled Dead Dismal by dismal Hand, there where other things such as ‘fishfinger in a bag’ and ‘I’m an Imbercile’ balloon by David Shrigley In good stored condition and a good example of Banksy card art. The ‘Dismaland’ Entrance Ticket (A4) paper size– the QR code works and gives event details. The ‘Dismaland’ Smiley Programme of Events with Glossy Cover 34 x 29 cm – 32 pages with an introduction by ‘Banksy’. The programme provides an epilogue of the event artists. The development of the Bemusement Park concept details and other equally interesting background info including other street artists such as LUSH, pop art, surrealist, abstract and conceptual artists, including Damien Hurst, with music from the infamous Russian Pussy Riot, Sleaford Mods, Massive Attack and comedy including the now famous Kathryn Ryan. As well as Banksy and his installation’s of the Mediterranean Boat ride, Cinderella, the Grim Reeper, the Fountain, the Mermaid, the Giant Pinwheel and Jumping Killer Whale, some detailed on the Tour Guide. There where likeminded national and international artists including other street artists such as LUSH, pop art, surrealist, abstract and conceptual artists. Including Damien Hurst, with music from the infamous Russian Pussy Riot and Sleaford Mods, Massive Attack and comedy including the now famous Kathryn Ryan. The print, made in 2005, shows a world map, printed using six different colours. On this map, Hirst labels the thirteen nuclear capable countries. Instead of labelling the countries with their names, Hirst sardonically names them after Jesus and his disciples. The background of the map is dark black, as opposed to the light blue conventionally used to depict the sea on traditional world maps. The countries are rendered in bold red, yellow and purple, giving the map a sinister feel. He worked as an RAF Photographic Interpreter while deployed in Cyprus during his National Service.[1] Cookson saw his first cartoon published in 1965, in the Daily Mirror . He took over Eric Burgin’s TV strip, The Nightelys, after the illustrator died in 1966. Cookson's cartoons were published in many publications including the London Evening News, the Sporting Life, the Daily Express, the Sun, the Mail on Sunday, The Oldie and The Spectator. He was also a regular contributor to Punch. He has written comedy sketches for The Two Ronnies, Dave Allen and Tommy Cooper, alongside his good friend and fellow cartoonist Stan 'Mac' McMurtry. Cookson illustrated for over 20 books by various authors, such as Maria Perry, William Donaldson, and John Timpson. He published and illustrated for his own books, Wine Lovers and ‘Til Divorce Us Do Part. He published his last novel, The Fifth Day, in 2009. Jago was featured in the seminal, eponymous book Scrawl published in 1999. Having studied illustration at the University of the West of England, Mr. Jago’s style, initially heavily illustrative, has evolved into something far more abstracted and expressive. Mr. Jago has taken spray painting to a level of sophistication rarely seen in the medium, there is maturity and depth to his use of colour which he uses to describe the natural world and the cosmos, as he says. “A love of nature has been the biggest influence on my work, the forms and flows that exist within it seem to be appearing more and more nowadays.” These references to landscape imagery with less emphasis on gesture and brushstrokes, combined with a strong focus on colour and its emotional function, is strongly reminiscent of the mid-century Colour Field movement, pioneered by the Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko.
