To paint PURE EVIL the brand, a cherry picker was used to reach the underside of the carriageway to advertise his now Trade Mark brand PURE EVIL. Knowing that there was a possibility that some of his inaugural and early Graffiti work would be painted over Charles immediately created 20 stencil, and hand-painted twenty faithful copies of the original. Each piece signed with the PURE EVIL trade mark moniker and Titled ‘Study for the Westway’. And, comes with a COA from the renowned Brandler Gallery. The Westway is a 2.5-mile (4 km) elevated dual carriageway section of the A40 trunk road in West London running from Paddington in the east to North Kensington in the west. It connects the London Inner Ring Road to the West London suburbs. Other ARTISTS work the Westway and the Westway has featured in songs by several British rock bands. The Clash referred to the road in "London's Burning". About the Art and Artists: Signed By: Sir Peter Blake RA & Chris Gabrin In Pencil Chris Gabrin talks about All New Boots and Panties I first met Ian Dury in 1973 when his band Kilburn and the Highroads were playing the pub circuit and immediately was impressed by Ian Dury’s talent, wit and style. We became friends and when Ian Dury signed to Stiff Records in 1977 he called and asked me to take some pictures for his album sleeve (untitled at the time). There was no particular theme in mind and we started with some uninspiring shots outside his flat in The Oval in South London. Ian Dury had his son, Baxter, with him and suggested we went to a shop he knew, Axfords in Victoria, which Sir Peter Blake had introduced him to. I only shot 24 exposures and Baxter was in just four of them. As soon as the films were developed Ian Dury came round and we immediately chose the same shot. We were so excited by the picture that we went straight into my darkroom and made the first print. The album title New Boots And Panties was subsequently coined by Ian Dury. After Ian's death in 2000, a tribute album was released, a re-recording of New Boots by guest artists under the title of Brand New Boots And Panties. Sir Peter Blake did a painting of Ian Dury for the front cover and requested that we use my photo on the back of the sleeve. Rob Smeaton of Rockoptic, an old friend from my art college days, was working with Sir Peter Blake on publishing limited edition prints of his work and came up with the brainwave of a joint artwork combining the two images. Working with Sir Peter Blake was one of the highlights of my life. This unforgettable experience, however, was tempered with sadness over the loss of Ian Dury. The subsequent artwork, All New Boots And Panties, which we created with the aid of Brad Faine, Peters long-time printmaker is a both a tribute and a fond farewell to Ian Dury from both of us. Lowry Limited edition titled "On the Promenade" with signed certificate of authenticity (signed by the Master Printer) Framed with special bespoke frame and intricate mount. Condition is excellent. Like the Post-Impressionists, Lowry was interested in recording the nuances of everyday life, basing his work on observations of the world around him. Inspired by the industrial scenes in his hometown, Lowry would stop and sketch during the day then develop a painting such as On the Promenade at home. His direct and distinctive style led art critic Jonathan Jones to call Lowry a modern primitive to be ranked alongside such artists as Henri Rousseau. A fan of its stiff consistency, Lowry painted with oil paints all of his life, using the paint straight from the tube. Just as Lowry was fascinated by capturing the quotidian, he was also quite elemental in his choice of materials. "I am a simple man, Lowry once said. I use simple materials: Ivory Black, Vermilion, Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, Flake White and no medium. The condition of the piece is superb for its age. Examples from this sold out edition have sold for well over £2000 through previous auctions. Although Lowry once said "I only deal with poverty, always with gloom. You‚Äôll never see a joyous picture of mine. I never do a jolly picture", his portfolio does include festive works such as "Good Friday, Daisy Nook" and his paintings of football matches. Painted in 1946, Good Friday, Daisy Nook shows a crowd at the annual Easter fair at Daisy Nook, near Manchester. The scene is filled with post-war optimism and leisure, with children holding balloons and bright, multicoloured tents dotting the background. When this cheerful painting was offered at Christie‚Äôs in London on 8 June 2007, it soared past its high estimate of £1.5 million and set a new world auction record for Lowry at the time of £3.8 million. He is an established graffiti artist and had a great amount of influence on artists such as Banksy. His work is extensively published by Black Rat Publishing. His paintings often feature a gentleman called “vandal” with a bowler hat, which featured in a video by The Black Eyed Peas. Walker’s signature “vandal” figure, an alter-ego who consistently appears in a black suit and bowler hat, is representative of the artist’s desire to imbue his detailed pieces with irony and humour. Walker’s paintings now sell for large sums of money. In 2006 a spray painted work titled “Moona Lisa” sold for an unexpected £54,000 at Bonhams in London. At a solo exhibition at London’s Black Rat Gallery in 2008, £750,000 worth of art sold. Besides, there were dozens of people camping overnight in front of the gallery. Walker was a major participant in the 2011 See No Evil event in Bristol, where he painted “perhaps the most striking piece at the event”. One of his gentleman with bowler hat on the side of a tower block in Nelson Street. Walker still lives in Bristol and is best known for merging freehand work with stencilled imagery. As a forerunner of this technique, he believes that the combination allows him to “juxtapose almost photographic imagery with the rawness which evolved from conventional graffiti styles.” In addition to traditional street art, Walker famously recreated the graffitied streets of New York for Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 film, Eyes Wide Shut. He is an established graffiti artist and had a great amount of influence on artists such as Banksy. His work is extensively published by Black Rat Publishing. His paintings often feature a gentleman called “vandal” with a bowler hat, which featured in a video by The Black Eyed Peas. Walker’s signature “vandal” figure, an alter-ego who consistently appears in a black suit and bowler hat, is representative of the artist’s desire to imbue his detailed pieces with irony and humour. Walker’s paintings now sell for large sums of money. In 2006 a spray painted work titled “Moona Lisa” sold for an unexpected £54,000 at Bonhams in London. At a solo exhibition at London’s Black Rat Gallery in 2008, £750,000 worth of art sold. Besides, there were dozens of people camping overnight in front of the gallery. Walker was a major participant in the 2011 See No Evil event in Bristol, where he painted “perhaps the most striking piece at the event”. One of his gentleman with bowler hat on the side of a tower block in Nelson Street. Walker still lives in Bristol and is best known for merging freehand work with stencilled imagery. As a forerunner of this technique, he believes that the combination allows him to “juxtapose almost photographic imagery with the rawness which evolved from conventional graffiti styles.” In addition to traditional street art, Walker famously recreated the graffitied streets of New York for Stanley Kubrick’s 1999 film, Eyes Wide Shut. He was born in Salerno in 1928 not far from the Amalfi Coast and began painting in the wake of the Posillipo School, following the road marked by the Dutch Pitloo, Giacinto Gigante and the Palizzi brothers. In 1949 he completed his studies begun with Della Rocca in Cava dei Tirreni and in 1956 he moved to Turin where he came into contact with new cultures, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Picasso and the new trends in contemporary art. From impressionism in "plein aire" to the post-impressionism of the Fauves, to the experiences of abstract art and informal art. He participates in numerous national and foreign reviews, awarded several times. His works are present in many Italian and foreign collections (United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, France). He is the Founder and President of the S. Rita International Academy. His painting moves within suggestive intuitions of aesthetic renewal, in a continuous and sensitive personal research, his themes extend over fields of various values: space, life, nature, mysticism. Insect created the now iconic ‘The Kid’ artwork for San Francisco based hip hop producer DJ Shadow's 2006 for the Outsider album. This was the first painting that he made after the concert and the word 'impression' referred to paintings that reproduced a direct expression of an internal nature. The detail and quality of this rare print is outstanding. Following the atomic explosion over Hiroshima in 1945, Dali painted a number of fragmented heads and figures. Some of the shapes that form the head in this painting are solid and phallic shaped - inspired by rhinoceros horns. The upper area of the painting, with the halo and brown clouds resembles photographs of atomic explosions. The female face, with its tender expression and thin halo, is recognisable as the face of a Madonna by Raphael. Dali was a great admirer of renaissance Old Masters, Da Vinci and Raphael to be specific. The skull section in this work is based upon the inside of the dome of the Pantheon building in Rome. Dali has fragmented the head to show how the sense of order from the past, illustrated by the balance and reason of a classical icon, has been shattered by the advent of nuclear weapons. The motif of the shattered head was a common one amongst artists in the post-war years. This reflects the emotional turmoil of a period when nuclear war seemed like a reality, following the use of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In this context, the delicate halo of the Madonna now suggests a nuclear mushroom cloud and her expression, with eyes downcast in prayer, seems particularly appropriate. Modern Toss are a couple of cack handed trouble-makers thinking up jokes and drawing them up for comics, greetings cards, books and animation. Prized by connoisseurs and collectors, their laugh out loud prints and artwork decorate toilet walls throughout the country. They made two TV series for Channel 4 along with an impressive stack of other short animations for the telly; in particular, Business Mouse, the daft as arseholes run ins of a foul mouthed entrepreneurial cockney mouse, proved a massive hit. Over the years Modern Toss have self published a whole rack of sharp and hilarious books, including the ever popular Work series. Title: J.M.W. Turner "Fighting Temeraire" Limited Edition On Canvas. Description: 9519 - Limited edition on canvas of J.M.W. Turner's "Fighting Temeraire" from a sold out published edition of only 60 on canvas Worldwide. It will be supplied with a replacement valuation for £1500 (free of charge). The quality of this print is of the highest standard, please see photographs which actually pick up the cracking in the paint from Turner's original painting. The condition of this piece is Mint. Please note that the full title is "The Fighting Temeraire Tugged to her Last Birth to be Broken-up, 1838" The original painting was produced in 1839. Turner's elegy for the age of sail and British Oak embodied in seamen, man-of-war and ships of the line, also ushers in the steam age. Sold like other outdated war ships for the price of her timber, the Temeraire is towed to the breakers by a steam tug. Much later, Turner's picture was described as his first, almost prophetic idea of smoke, soot, iron and steam. Turner called it his "darling" and refused to sell it. He intended it for the National Gallery which sits in Trafalgar Square named after the battle in which the Temeraire had served and to this day the painting remains in the collection of the National Gallery. The vessel was towed from Sheerness up the Thames to be broken-up in a Rotherhithe shipyard. The ‚ÄòTemeraire‚Äô was a 98-gun, three-decked ship of the line that had been launched in 1798, during the French Revolutionary War. Her name is a French word that means bold or fearless. On 21 October 1805, under the command of Captain Eliab Harvey, she had a chance to live up to her name. When Admiral Nelson‚Äôs flagship HMS Victory came under heavy fire from the French, the Temeraire came to her defence. After a series of daring manoeuvres, she not only saved Nelson‚Äôs vessel, but also captured two French ships. Nelson died, but the British won the battle. The part played by the Temeraire was commended as "most noble and distinguished". This painting was thought to represent the decline of Britain's naval power. The Temeraire is shown travelling east, away from the sunset, even though Rotherhithe is west of Sheerness, but Turner‚Äôs main concern was to evoke a sense of loss, rather than to give an exact recording of the event. Turner's painting also pays tribute to the Temeraire's heroic past. The glorious sunset is a fanfare of colour in her honour. It can also be seen as a symbol of the end of an era, with the sun setting on the days of elegant, tall-masted warships. The Temeraire is already a ghostly shape, fading away behind the solid form of the squat little steam tug that pulls her along to her fate. He was born in Salerno in 1928 not far from the Amalfi Coast and began painting in the wake of the Posillipo School, following the road marked by the Dutch Pitloo, Giacinto Gigante and the Palizzi brothers. In 1949 he completed his studies begun with Della Rocca in Cava dei Tirreni and in 1956 he moved to Turin where he came into contact with new cultures, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, Picasso and the new trends in contemporary art. From impressionism in "plein aire" to the post-impressionism of the Fauves, to the experiences of abstract art and informal art. He participates in numerous national and foreign reviews, awarded several times. His works are present in many Italian and foreign collections (United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, France). He is the Founder and President of the S. Rita International Academy. His painting moves within suggestive intuitions of aesthetic renewal, in a continuous and sensitive personal research, his themes extend over fields of various values: space, life, nature, mysticism. Always aimed at the effort of a construction, alert, without intimistic excesses and dangerous alienations. In his compositions, colour penetrates visual reality, making it thicker, becoming both reality and event at the same time. Ready to frame. Artist Biography: Gerry Baptist's paintings convey an immediate frisson; he creates landscape and figure studies in vibrant colour possessing a natural talent for composition. His paintings are startling in their effectiveness, having a clarity, vivaciousness coupled with a powerful vision. Born in India in 1935 of British/Portuguese parents, Baptist's artistic education began at home; his father a musician, writer and artist, his mother, drawn to nature. Baptist likely gets his insatiable curiosity in life from his bohemian upbringing. "Our home was just a chaos of music, books and art - it was like living in a wild flower garden where everything was allowed to thrive." About The ART and the ARTIST 'Scandal' is a raw political statement capturing the emotion and outrage that encapsulates the public when governmental policy or banking and commerce forces uninvited decision and consequence. This politically colour popping image from early in Eine's career where only images could convey Eine's sentiments and be more viscerally expressive and angry than his typography. Ben Eine has built an exuberant street art practice around intricate, colourful typography. In the wake of the 2008 UK financial meltdown Eine made an incendiary attack on bankers and the establishment. Scandal is a raw Graf art concept reacting to all the things which the public were enduring from the fallout of This silk screen print on wove paper is a part of an Edition of 50 that Eine produced in 2009, which went on to be modified in a smaller second edition size in 2013. The subjects are all politically fuelled from events from the past from which the style is heavily influenced by Gilbert and Georges panel paintings. In 2013 Eine released ‘Fight’ in which the subject remained the same but removed the banker and reduced the Grid ratio to represent angst in a 2013 context. A FINANCIAL TIMES May 2004 Urban Art ‘Off the Streets, exposé on the rise of Urban Art. In 2006 a spray painted work of Walker's titled "Moona Lisa" sold for an unexpected £54,000 at Bonhams in London. At a solo exhibition at London's Black Rat Gallery in 2008, £750,000 worth of Walkers art was sold, with dozens of people camping outside the gallery overnight. Walker recreated the graffiti'd streets of New York City for Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film, Eyes Wide Shut. His work has also appeared in The Black Eyed Peas promotional video. Walker was a main participant in the 2011 ‘See No Evil event in Bristol’, where he painted "perhaps the most striking piece at the event" one of his bowler-hatted gentleman on the side of a tower block in Nelson Street. Walker continues with his Urban Art in the public realm and was the first artist-in-residence at the Quin Arts program for the Quin Hotel in New York City. There Walker created 15 original pieces on-site for the Quin’s permanent collection during his residency in 2013, shortly following the hotel's opening. In February 2016, Walker revisited the Quin to show both historic images, as well as a new vocabulary of abstraction. This solo exhibit, curated by DK Johnston, presented 25 original works and opened the hotel’s Quin Arts program for the 2016 season. In November 2016, Walker joined a cohort of fellow former Quin Arts artists-in-residence, using the D’Angelico Guitar as their “canvas,” this was for an infamous artists salon. Jago was featured in the seminal, eponymous book Scrawl published in 1999. Having studied illustration at the University of the West of England, Mr. Jago’s style, initially heavily illustrative, has evolved into something far more abstracted and expressive. About the Art and the Artist ‘JACKIE KENNEDY’ with her iconic Pure Evil dripping tear is for the loss of John F Kennedy, her husband and President of America. Charles Uzzell-Edwards iconic USP and artistic interpretation of her loss, is a four coloured hand pulled Silk Screen Print with aqua, red, purple, black and sheen black dripping tear accents. The style of Pure Evil is certainly distinctive, leading to the growth of his brand worldwide. Using primarily graffiti and stencil, the work of Pure Evil is often bright and colourful, while including satirical and political overtones that mock popular culture. Jackie Kennedy (1929-94), born Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, later Jackie Onassis, worked as a photographer before marrying ambitious Democratic politician JFK in 1953. She became the nation’s most celebrated First Lady when Kennedy was elected US president in 1961. On November 21 1963 she was with Kennedy in an open car crossing Dealey Plaza in Dallas when the shots were fired that changed America’s sense of itself, breeding paranoia and countless conspiracy theories. Pure Evil is the moniker for Welsh born Street artist, Charles Uzzell-Edwards, who studied fashion and graphics in London. Moving to the West Coast of the US in the early 90’s, he found inspiration in the graffiti and skate culture and became heavily involved in the electronic music scene. Pure Evil’s first street works were in California, where he would paint anti Bush slogans on roadsides and Murderers on gun stores. Returning to London, his street work continued with a new graffiti tag that was to become his iconic signature. Pure Evil’s infamous Vampire Bunny is the result of a recurring childhood nightmare (nightmares also being a major theme in his work). Pure Evil soon fell in with the people behind Banksy’s Santa’s Ghetto and started to produce new prints and paintings alongside his street work.
