Can combine Lots for best value. Please contact for best value postage. About the Art and the Artist This Surrealist but darkly humorous and grotesque picture has a matt black body to the subjects. It shares a dadaist influence of the absurd but has the charming qualities of Horst Janner and his earlier seminal work. For Horst, this is a different and unusual composition in the DaDa influence. Horst Janssen (14 November 1929 – 31 August 1995) was a German draftsman, printmaker, poster artist and illustrator. He had a prolific output of drawings, etchings, woodcuts, lithographs and wood engravings. Janssen was a student of Alfred Mahlau at the Landeskunstschule Hamburg. He first published in the newsweekly Die Zeit in 1947. In the early 1950s, he started working in lithography, on an initiative of Aschaffenburg paper manufacturer Guido Dessauer, using the technical facilities of a coloured paper factory. The first retrospective of Janssen's drawings and graphic works was shown in 1965, first in the kestnergesellschaft Hanover, then in other German cities and in Basel. In 1966, he was awarded Hamburg's Edwin Scharff Prize. International exhibitions followed. In 1968, he received the Grand Prize in graphic art at the Venice Biennale; in 1977, his works were shown at the documenta VI in Kassel. Title: Original Painting By Giuseppe D'Elia Description: 5840 - Original painting on canvas by Italian artist Giuseppe D'elia Landscape. Giuseppe is a landscape artist who captures the beautiful land and seascapes of southern Italy and the Adriatic coastline with an imaginative mind and vibrant palette. His use of colour and the manner in which he applies in careful brush strokes or free flowing palette knife captures the idyllic rural setting of the fields, orchards, coastline and waterways of this tranquil part of Italy. Golden yellows, rust reds and burnt orange are mixed and applied to his canvases in such a way that they exude warmth and his light use of colour for the sky and the sea creates a hazy, subdued atmospheric feeling which is entirely appropriate for a calm sea on a warm day. Giuseppe studied at various art schools and colleges in Italy and in 1974 he was offered his first solo show in a gallery in Brindisi. Since then Giuseppe has not looked back and he exhibits regularly in galleries in the fashionable cities of Rome and Milan as well as keeping to his rural roots and showing in small resort towns around the country. Giuseppe has had his work shown at all the major art fairs in Italy as well as fairs in Frankfurt, Cannes, Dublin, London and Edinburgh. In the maturity of the creative path, Giuseppe D'Elia has reached the informal, one would say an "impure" abstraction since in his latest works a figural abstract persists: elements, not always and easily legible, of a deconstructed, decontextualized, reduced landscape almost to the mnemonic datum alone. Title "Fishing Boats III, St. Ives" Hand washline mounted and ready to frame. Artist Biography. John Chisnall was born in Carshalton, Surrey in 1943 where he spent the first twenty years of his life. He had a very successful career in the public sector, managing the design and construction of as wide range of buildings and civil engineering structures for the government estate. The professional experience gained in this field has given him extensive knowledge of many of the subjects he now explores in his paintings. He developed his interest in painting and drawing in parallel with his primary career until, gradually, these activities gained more importance and in 1992 he left public service in order to spend more time painting. He now paints full time. John Chisnall has painted in various media throughout his life and now works mainly in watercolour, finding this medium well suited to catching both the atmosphere and the detail of a place. Largely self taught, although he did spend three years at Sutton School of Art studying life drawing, his paintings are direct celebrations of visual pleasures and ignore the darker sides of modern life. Exhibiting extensively in galleries throughout the UK, he has had six one-man shows in the last 15 years and has illustrated several books on local villages and parishes in Surrey. The light hearted references to Romeo and Juliet, with a spin on Shakespearean verbiage, creates a relief of sorts to the eroticism of the composition.
