He was born in Salerno in 1928 not far from the Amalfi Coast and began painting in the wake of the Posillipo School, following the road marked by the Dutch Pitloo, Giacinto Gigante and the Palizzi brothers. In 1949 he completed his studies began with Della Rocca in Cava dei Tirreni and in 1956 he moved to Turin where he came into contact with new cultures, Milan, Paris, Barcelona, and the new trends in contemporary art. From impressionism in "plein aire" to the post-impressionism of the Fauves, to the experiences of abstract art and informal art. Title: Joan Miro "Femme Oiseaux 1976" Rare Limited Edition Description: 8911 - Rare Limited Edition by the world famous Spanish artist Joan Miro (1893-1983) titled "Femme, Oiseaux, 1976". This is one from a sold out edition of only 75 published worldwide. Supplied complete with a certificate of authenticity, signed by the "Master Printer" and a replacement valuation of £1650, both free of charge. It has been superbly float mounted and framed with a special cut designer mount. In immaculate condition. Femme, Oiseaux is one of several paintings on the poetic theme of women, birds and the night which was a common subject for Miro in the 1960s and 70s. Miro was pursuing joint influences of recent American painting and of Japanese calligraphy on his own uniquely poetic, instinctive and gestural style of painting. American Painting, Miro admitted, had showed me a direction I wanted to take but which up to then had remained at the stage of an unfulfilled desire. When I saw these paintings, I said to myself, you can do it, too: go to it, you see, it is O.K.! You must remember that I grew up in the school of Paris. That was hard to break away from. Inspired by the dramatic large scale open field style of painting as pioneered by such artists as Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline, in the 1960s, Miro, after moving into the large studio he had always dreamed of, began also to make work on an ever increasing scale. In addition to this, a visit to Japan in 1966 for a retrospective of his work held in Tokyo allowed Miro to meet with Japanese poets, potters and calligraphers whose art he had always admired. In particular, as he recalled of this visit, I was fascinated by the work of the Japanese calligraphers and it definitely influenced my own working methods. I work more and more in a state of trance, I would say almost always in a trance these days. And I consider my painting more and more gestural. As Miros work of the 1960s progressed he became freer and more at ease with his working process. Similarly, as a work such as Femme, Oiseaux demonstrates, as a direct result of this practice, Miros forms grew more open and expansive, his gestural lines more dramatic and flowing while the poetic nature and integrity of his pictorial vocabulary remained essentially the same. Segregated into distinct fields of pure colour, .the smooth flowing calligraphic lines of Miros powerful glyph-like imagery also signify strongly the transient path and process of their own creation.. After his father's death in 1932, Lowry cared for his "bed fast" mother until her death in 1939. His paintings from this period reflect the isolation and growing despair of these years. It is possible that his mental stress and depression percolated into the painting and in a way was the reason for its bleakness. The painting depicts a moody Irwell Valley and its smoke-polluted atmosphere against an industrial background. The fences look like blood-red coloured tombstones dotted around and the telegraph poles are reminiscent of crucifixes. The water in the middle ground looks dirty and stagnant with an abandoned half-sunken boat to the left. On the left shore there are men queuing for work at a time when jobs were few and far between. On the far left is Agecroft Colliery, which was opened in 1844 but had to close in 1932 with a great loss of jobs. Lowry has intertwined churches and the town hall with the mill chimneys, which spew out black polluting smoke; it is an interesting juxtaposition of industrial architecture and residential buildings.. Monet and his family moved to Giverny in April 1883. On his arrival there, Monet rented a large house on two acres of land, and subsequently bought it when it came up for sale in 1890. Early in 1893 Monet acquired an adjacent plot of land and by autumn he had converted nearly one thousand square meters into a lavish lily pond, spanned by a wooden footbridge and surrounded by an artful arrangement of flowers, trees and bushes. Monet did not begin work on his water-lily series immediately, however. It was not until 1904, following the enormously successful exhibition of his paintings from London, that Monet began to focus on the surface of the lily-pond as a subject, and this would almost remain his exclusive subject for the duration of his career. He completed more than sixty views of the pond between 1905 and 1908, repeatedly postponing the opening of the Nympheas exhibition at Durand-Ruel. It has also signed by the Master Printer. It has been printed to the highest standard with lightfast inks onto acid-free calcium carbonate-buffered stock, mould-made from 100% cotton. It has been professionally mounted and framed. Mondrian was born in Holland in 1872 and was determined to become a painter from a young age. He qualified with a teaching degree in 1892, but enrolled for painting lessons, before moving to Amsterdam and registering at the Rijksacademie. Mondrian became a member of the art society Kunstliefde "Art Lovers" in Utrecht, where his first paintings were exhibited in 1893. He experimented with many different styles including naturalistic, impressionist and painting many landscapes of his native country. In 1911 he moved to Paris and the influence of Cubism, as evidenced by Picasso and Braque, started to appear almost immediately in his work. He spent the duration of the First World War back in Holland and continued his journey towards abstraction. After the War had finished Mondrian returned to France. He then moved to London in 1938 but relocated to New York just two years later in 1940, where he remained until his death. Mondrian is well known for his 'A¢ contribution to the development of modern abstract art. He strove to portray an extreme 'formal purity' through his combination of simplistic straight lines and bold primary colours. The Image: Mondrian spent the period 1914-1918 (World War I) back at his home in Holland and during this time, he decided to work on an abstract art form which was later classified as 'Neoplastic style'. This work was depicted by lighter colours, simplified colour selection and forms that were balanced in their composition. This work is a result of Mondrian joining the abstraction-creation line which was open to new styles, new techniques and at this time Mondrian began to be fascinated with the idea of the line and dismantling the very definition of painting. He argued that drawing and draughtsmanship which were exemplified in the line, had always lain at the heart of painting from the Renaissance artists to the Impressionists to the Modernists and no one had ever thought to challenge that.. Girl with a Pearl Earring was originally titled Girl with a Turban and it wasn't until the second half of the twentieth century that the name was changed. Regarded as Vermeer's masterpiece, this canvas is often referred to as the Mona Lisa of the North or the Dutch Mona Lisa. The girl in this painting is believed to be Vermeer's eldest daughter, Maria, who was about twelve or thirteen-years-old at the time it was created. Her facial features appear in several of Vermeer's works but his various techniques on his subject make it difficult to compare the female faces in his paintings, as the woman are portrayed in different lighting conditions and poses. There is very little information about Vermeer and his paintings. Girl with a Pearl Earring is signed "IVMeer" but there is no date on this work. It remains unknown whether or not this canvas was commissioned and if so, by whom. It's more likely that this image was a tronie, Dutch 17th-century description of a 'head' painting that was not intended as a portrait. With this painting the viewer is captured by the subject and believes they have caught her attention and caused her to turn her head. This is a sensual painting with the girl gazing at the viewer with wide eyes and a parted mouth and there is an air of mystery surrounding her identity. In 1994 this canvas was restored which involved removing the yellowed varnish along with the retouches that had been made during previous restorations. This resulted in the vivid colours originally used by Vermeer shining through and the intimacy of the girl's gaze was also greatly enhanced. Girl with a Pearl Earring is Vermeer's most famous painting and one of the most recognisable pieces of art of all time. Vermeer mastered shadow and light in his work. He shows the softness of the girls' face, the playful reflection in her eyes and the glimmer of light in the pearl earring marking this as a striking and engaging piece. Completed in 1665, this is not a portrait but a "tronie"- the figure is a figment of Vermeer's imagination. Tronies usually depict a character, in this case a girl who is wearing a fashionable, exotic dress and wears an oriental turban and most importantly, a large pearl in her ear.. The Rue Montorgueil is often thought to depict a 14 July celebration, in fact it was painted on 30 June 1878 for a festival declared that year by the government celebrating "peace and work". This was one of the events organised for the third Universal Exhibition in Paris a few weeks after it opened, and intended to be a symbol of Frances recovery after the defeat of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War. As well as demonstrating nationalist enthusiasm, the celebrations of 30 June 1878 were also an opportunity to strengthen the position of the Republican regime. It was two years later, in 1880, that 14 July was designated the French National Day. This painting proposes a distanced vision of an urban landscape by a painter who did not mix with the crowd, but observed it from a window. The three colours of blue, white and red vibrating in Monet's painting are those of modern France. The impressionist technique, with its multitude of small strokes of colour, suggests the animation of the crowd and the wavering of flags. The flags along Rue Montorgueil look fine when you first glance at the painting, but not if you look directly at them, or after you study the details carefully. This effect is called illusory conjunction. The paintings spatial imprecision is not so noticeable at first because our own spatial imprecision allows illusory conjunctions to complete the objects. It was painted in 1941, when Dali was mid-career and writing his semi-autobiography 'The Secret Life of Salvador Dali'. Keeping the facial features of the original magazine cover, Dali metamorphosed the portrait into a coastal landscape using overpainting techniques. The title translates to 'Mysterious Mouth Appearing Behind My Nurse's Back'. Alluding to his childhood memories, the painting depicts Dali himself as a boy, with his nurse Llucia on a Catalonian beach. Marco wished to continue his studies and moved to Milan where he went on to further study at the brera academy of fine arts where he got interested in theatre set design and photography, before making a permanent move to Rome where he graduated from the Rome Academy of Fine Arts in 1999. He has had solo exhibitions in Roma, Udine and Edinburgh, and collective exhibitions in Bari, Viareggio, Venezia, Bologna, Cannes, Padua and New York and Mexico City. His interests in theatre and photography are dominant in his work and he is forever with a paint brush or camera in hand photographing everything from derelict buildings to everyday people rushing past in the streets, to the multitude of statues and fountains of his adopted city which he then recreates as a collage on canvas from his attic studio apartment overlooking many of Romes famous historical attractions. Graduated in Architecture and Furniture at the Art Institute of his city, in 1994 he moved to Milan and enrolled in the Scenography Course of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera. Get in touch with the Milanese artistic environment, start collaborating with photographers and set designers as an assistant. Not a random choice, since Marco Tamburro has already gained a deep interest in the large theatrical spaces, in which he imagines and gives shape to pictorial panels with imposing dimensions, he uses a bridle free from his visionary fantasy. His great expressive power fascinates him, which plays a fundamental role in the attempt to translate visual images into a communicative medium. The Roman cultural environment also pushes him to narrate everyday life in visionary ways: an unlived life, in which man lets himself be dragged into the vortex of his incessant and frenetic rhythms, losing sight of the time that passes too quickly, without being able to grasp the little things that surround him. All this explains the marginal role of the human figure in his painting: it is a simple presence, a shadow, a spectrum consumed by time, a time that chases incessantly, climbing to the top of dizzying and monumental skyscrapers. Man inevitably remains crushed and alienated from this magma which is todays¬†metropolis, a symbol of the power of hostile and aggressive power that dominates it..
